Welcome to the ASCD, Inc.
The Australian Society for Computerised Dentistry was formed July 25, 2001 in Sydney Australia. It is now an incorporated body registered in Queensland, Australia.
Computers have been used in record-keeping, diagnostic and treatment delivery modes in greater depth and breadth with each passing year—our experience is that an ASCD dental member normally has more than one area of interest in computerisation of their practices, and usually include an active use of 'chairside ceramics' as a key feature of their daily life.
Although originally an initiative of Cerec® users, our group has no formal links with any manufacturers of dental systems. 'CadCam Dentistry' started in Europe and was 20 years old in 2008. The very first user in Australia started in the early 1990s, and since the turn of the century, the world of cad-cam dentistry has exploded, with two chairside ceramic systems being sold commercially and many more laboratory systems in use. Lasers, computed tomography, computerised occlusal analysis as well as digital radiography, photography, orthodontics and research have all been topics embraced by the Society in recent years.
The object of the Society is to foster interest and advance expertise in all these areas of dentistry as well as being a focus for excellence in Chairside Ceramics. A strong element of the day to day operation of the ASCD is using the internet as a primary means of communication between members.
The ASCD provides members with
- 'CadCamCon', our major conference held every two years
- An Internet forum, 'AuSCD' hosted on Yahoogroups (details below)
- Formal affiliation with the International Society for Computerized Dentistry (ISCD)
- ADA representation at state and federal level through Affiliated Society status with ADA, Inc
- A member newsletter, 'Bytewise'
Informally we offer support and training to members new to Chairside Ceramics.
Membership during 2009 is being offered on a no-fee basis. During Cad Cam Conference years, the membership fee supports organisational costs associated with staging the event and maintaining the website and secretariat.
