The Sydney MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) at Circular Quay was today confirmed as the venue for the ASCD Annual Dinner. Sitting on the harbour foreshore, the roof-top venue should provide a fitting backdrop to the Conference's main social event. Conference dinners in the past have been memorable events in memorable places and the committee is looking forward to unveiling it's special guest speaker. (last time we hosted renowned wine writer Huon Hooke)

Dr Brad Wright a past-president of the Society, was confirmed a speaker for CCC 5 today. Brad is now working for Queensland Uni as the Dental School Manager. Brad will speak about the new 200 chair 18,000 sq. metre Oral Health Centre opening in 2012 and spcifically the Digitalisation of Dentistry - from radiology to Equipment and Operator Metrics and Software control , PAC Servers, through to the familiar CEREC and E4D systems. Brad will show some of the new concepts and how they will be integrated into the new school and the relevance they have for you as private practitioners. UQ is currently digital across its 100 chairs - Electronic patient records and all digital radiology with Cone Beam, OPG & Cephs and intraoral phosphor plate and sensor systems. The ASCD has a tradition of featuring speakers across a range of topics in computerisation of clinical practice and we look forward to Dr Wright's lecture.

The new ASCD, Inc website went live in the last few days. Although not completely populated, the site aims to provide information for patients and members alike. The committee has been working on the site for the last 9 months and is happy with the result. The Society has also now registered all three common URL addresses (www.ascd.org.au, www.ascd.net.au and www.ascd.com.au) for Society use.

The ASCD today announced that Dr Bob Mongrain, of Tulsa, Oaklahoma had accepted the committee's invitation to present at CCC 5, in September 2010. Bob graduated from the University of Florida, College of Dentistry in 1979 and currently has a private practice in Tulsa. he is well known in the world of digital dentistry and has been writing and lecturing about using E4D for many years. As well as being an adjunct faculty member at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, he lectures internationally as well as acting as a trainer in computerised dentistry. He has been a Board Member of the Academy of CAD CAM Dentistry, instructor alongside Dr Rich Masek at Dentistry By Design and he's an ISCD internationally certified trainer. Bob is almost unique in that he started out using Cerec but is now an advanced instructor for E4D as well as a consultant to several dental companies.

Dr Ray Becker has agreed to be the keynote presenter for CadCamCon 5, to be held in Sydney over the weekend of 3-5 September 2010. The ASCD, Inc, President Dr Greg Broesder, said he was looking forward to having Dr Becker return to Australia. "Ray presented at CCC 2 in 2002 and did a great job. He is particularly strong in anterior aesthetics and managing occlusion with Cerec. We're really excited to be hosting him again.
Dr Becker has long experience with chairside ceramics starting in 1991, with Cerec 1. An accomplished presenter and international speaker, a Cerec instructor and beta-tester for Sirona, Ray presented at the Cerec 20-year celebration lectures in Las Vegas to an enthusiastic audience.
The ASCD hopes to have more information on Ray's topics and other speakers shortly.

The Intercontinental Hotel, Sydney was confirmed as the conference Hotel for CCC 5 today. The Intercon is a 5-star establishment that has hosted the US President in the past. Located right in the heart of downtown Sydney (117 Macquarie street), it will be a great venue for the Society's fifth conference.
The Friday night Welcome Cocktail Party will be held in the rooftop bar of the hotel

The Centre for Professional Dental Development, a business unit of the NSW ADA has been appointed at the conference organiser for CCC 5, the President Dr Greg Broesder said today. Mr Todd Redwood, the CEO of the Centre, said, "I feel confident that we will provide equally efficient management of your upcoming event as we have in the past". The CPD has managed the past two CadCamCons for the ASCD.
Members with specific enquiries about registration will be assisted by Ms Tricia Tham, the conference Events Manager.

The ASCD today announced the fifth CadCam Conference staged by the ASCD would be going ahead in September 2010. "CadCamCons", the biennial conferences organised by the Society have been held since 2001. "We chose Sydney again as a central location for all our members. September is a great month to experience Sydney. We think it will be good opportunity to catch up with the latest and review the basics for newer users", said Dr Patrick Meaney, NSW-based member on the national committee. "We missed staging an event 2009; we're confident 2010 will be a success. We also hope to change the emphasis a bit and include information on the 'other machine', E4D, in some way."
