The Fourth Annual Conference took place Friday to Sunday, 14 – 16 September 2007 at the Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour - Sydney, with the theme Discover The Possibilities Of CADCAM Ceramics.

Our Keynote presented was Dr Armen Mirzayan, from Cerecdoctors.com

The conference opened on Friday with the ASCD Software Clinic run by the committee and ISCD Trainers. We called this session ‘The Manic Morning’ a few years ago when Ray Becker was here for CCC2 in Coolum, Queensland and the name has stuck. We were pleasantly suprised to find Armen pitching in and giving most of the delegates a unique insight into how he approached the Cerec basics.

After a light lunch, the conference proper was opened and Dr Armen Mirzayan presented the first of his five lectures on all aspects of chairside ceramics during three days of the conference.
He presented a great lecture on the use of the exciting new materials available.
Dr Wayne Martin spoke in the afternoon on lasers and how to get the most out of them in general practice.

The Annual ASCD Cocktail Party was staged in the Crowne Plaza terrace area, and was a relaxed and comfortable start to the CADCAMCON – where meet old friends meet some new ones!
Saturday morning started with Armen’s next presentation on handling large cases and quadrant dentistry efficiently. The Sirona company sponsored Mr Michael Dunn to speak in Australia for the first time. Michael was Clinical Marketing Manager for Sirona in the USA and has now taken over from ASCD friend Roddy Macleod as Software Product Manager for Sirona, based in Germany. Michael looked at the current relewase and discussed the future software plans.

After lunch Armen talked about restoring implants, and in the afternoon we heard from prothodontist Dr Mehmet Ohkutan about the research he’s been doing at Queensland University with Vita Mk II blocks and Cerec. Day 2 finished with the ASCD Practice Management Forum, where Dr Patrick Meaneyinterviewed Dr Brad Wright about the secrets of financial success in dental practice.

The Saturday night saw the ASCD Annual Dinner held this year at the Sydney Convention centre with sweeping views of the city by night. Wine writer, wine show judge and general wine expert Huon Hooke was our very special guest speaker. If you don’t know Huon, he’s been writing and speaking about wine for more than 20 years and was an excellent after-dinner speaker.

Sunday kicked off with the ASCD annual meeting, followed by Armen’s last presentation on Anterior Tooth Restoration. Dr Tony Simeone spoke on the computerised occlusal analyser, T-Scan. Lastly we welcomed Micahel Dunn back to conduct the Future Forum. These sessions turn out to be very important to the future development of the software and Sirona have historically listened to users to add improvements and break new ground as a result of direct. The conference concluded with a light lunch around 1.30pm.
During the Conference the Committee also conducted staining and glazing clinics held as break-out ons and the trade display was appreciated by all.

Stain and Glaze clinics are always popular
